The Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) held the first meeting to discuss the potential pharmacopoeia by the permanent committee, which was formed upon a decree by EDA Head Tamer Essam, according to a November 19th Cabinet statement.

Pharmacopoeia is an official book by the government to regulate the pharmaceutical industry, in terms of ensuring the quality control of drugs, their substances, and excipients, under official standards upon a scientific basis.

Last year, Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el Sisi ratified Law No. 151 of 2019 for the establishment and regulation of EDA as well as the Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement and Medical Supplies.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and other partners have recently rolled out a new pharma investment platform in the Arab republic.
