KUWAIT CITY: Information and cybercrime expert Raid Al- Roumi has warned against neglecting the boarding pass, throwing it into the garbage bin, or leaving it on the plane as the information contained therein could be used to hack personal data such as bank details.

In a statement to the daily, Al- Roumi pointed out the boarding pass contains important details more than what a person might think. It does not only contain the passenger’s name and destination, as it could be used to obtain confidential information about the person and to change or cancel the booking, he added.

He said some people post their boarding passes on social media; thereby, exposing themselves to risks considering the vital information there such as the name, boarding pass or booking number and electronic codes; in addition to informing burglars about your absence from home.

He disclosed there are also risks in using credit cards at shopping and selling centers; while the public is into wrong practices which expose their details and money to risk, particularly hacking or usage of card details to purchase from outside.

He suggested that when using credit card to purchase goods or services, the owner should personally use it in designated machines; not with the help of the cashier in order to avoid stealing of personal details or information.
