Middle East: Oxford Business Group (OBG) has promoted Billy FitzHerbert to the position of Regional Editor for the Middle East.

In his new role, FitzHerbert will oversee the research and editorial output of OBG’s teams for the markets it covers across the region.

Originally from Ireland, FitzHerbert holds an MA in History from the University of Edinburgh. He moved to Istanbul to work in economic research soon after graduating and joined OBG as an analyst the following year. Since 2014, FitzHerbert has been based at the global research and consultancy firm’s Middle East desk, playing a key role in the production of over 30 country reports by undertaking numerous analyst assignments in the field, while also working on the management and production side of projects.

Oliver Cornock, OBG’s Editor-in-Chief said the experience that FitzHerbert has gained from time spent on the ground in regional capitals meeting key stakeholders and compiling business intelligence for publication made him an ideal fit for the position of regional editor.

“Since joining Oxford Business Group, Billy has become a valued member of the team, bringing insight, in-depth knowledge and enthusiasm to our Middle East operations,” he said. “Given the pace at which many of the economies in this part of the world are evolving and implementing reforms, I’m sure that Billy’s attributes will serve him well in this challenging, but exciting new role.”

FitzHerbert said he was delighted to be broadening his responsibilities at a time when the region was in the midst of change. “Many of the markets that we cover are shifting away from a reliance on oil and focusing instead on the sectors that will enable them to move towards a knowledge-led economy,” he said. “I look forward to working with our teams based across the Middle East to report on these exciting developments, and sharing the investment opportunities that they are producing with our readers.”
