BERLIN - Thomas Cook said there were around 140,000 people currently travelling with its German subsidiaries, with a further 21,000 booked to depart on Monday and Tuesday.

A German government official said at the weekend that compulsory insurance should cover the repatriation needs of most German travellers, should they be stranded by the venerable tour operator's collapse.
