Dubai’s DP World will expand its presence in the healthcare sector by managing the logistics and supply chain needs of Saudi-backed Fakeeh University Hospital, the ports company revealed today.

DP World, currently the world’s fifth largest box port operator according to Lloyds has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for its first tie-up with the Silicon Oasis-based hospital, under which it will manage a Dubai-based automated warehouse.

Fakeeh University Hospital is owned by Saudi healthcare provider Fakeeh Care.

DP World will also be in charge of and responsible for the logistical and supply chain requirements of the hospital, such as pharmaceutical and cold chain storage and delivery, as well as current and future needs in warehouse management, surgical consumables and other hospital utilities.

Abdulla Bin Damithan, chief commercial officer of DP World, said the company would be making other future service offerings in the UAE and Saudi Arabia in addition to those provided to Fakeeh University Hospital.

“DP World will leverage automation, technology and smart healthcare logistics solutions to promote integrated patient-centric outcomes. Healthcare represents one of the key sectors DP World can assist with, by managing and operating Fakeeh University Hospital’s automated warehouse in Dubai, in addition to providing future service offerings in the UAE and Saudi Arabia,” he added.

Dr Fatih Mehmet Gul, CEO of Fakeeh University Hospital, said the move would allow staff to focus on core healthcare delivery services.

“To ensure that we are providing the best healthcare delivery services for our patients, we need to stay completely focused on the clinical aspect of our hospital. The collaboration with DP World enables us to optimise our resources and work towards the goal of ultimate patient satisfaction,” he added.
