ABU DHABI, 26th March, 2017 (WAM) -- Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy, has said the United Arab Emirates is keen to join global environmental conservation and preservation efforts to protect the environment and reduce greenhouse gases.

In a statement marking Earth Hour, a global event observed worldwide to encourage individuals, communities, households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m., as a symbol of their commitment to the planet.

The minister reiterated the UAE's commitment to continuously work for rationalising the use of water and electricity in collaboration with the education sector in the country. Al Mazrouei cited a series of initiatives made across the country to enhance public awareness and ensure sustainability through field visits to colleges and schools to instil a culture among different generations to protect the environment.

"Rationalising the use of water and energy has become incumbent on each person living on the planet, it is our collective responsibility to ensure sustainability," said the minister, calling upon all members of society to contribute to the nation-wide efforts made to reduce the state's carbon footprint.
