A total of 1,648 Bahrainis were employed last year in government agencies under the Civil Service Law.

The Civil Service Bureau (CSB) said the recruitment process in these agencies is based on demand and the actual need to fill job vacancies there.

In response to a parliamentary question submitted by MP Jamil Hassan regarding the number of Bahraini jobseekers registered with the Civil Service Bureau, it said the number of Bahrainis applying for a job under the Online Job Application System at the CSB totalled 18,179 to date.

These applications also include those working in the private sector and government employees seeking better job opportunities, accounting for 45 per cent of the total applications.

The CSB indicated that 592 non-Bahraini employees had their contracts terminated last year, as the duration of temporary employment contracts ranged between one and two years, depending on the nature of the job to be filled, in accordance with the bureau’s regulations and legislation in this regard.

Replacement with Bahraini employees requires their acquisition of the necessary skills and capabilities to take up the position, it added.
