Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has updates on some of its projects in its 2021 sustainability report. Zawya Projects has compiled a list of the updates.

Hassyan Energy

The utility provider expects Hassyan Energy Phase one’s net capacity to reach 2,400 megawatts (MW) by 2023. The first phase had started operations with a current net capacity of 1,200 MW. While the plant was designed to be operated on dual fuel, DEWA, as an off-taker, decided to operate using only natural gas as the primary fuel.

Space-D

DEWA plans to launch a 6U nanosatellite in the first quarter of 2023. It has already launched one 3U satellite in January 2022. The Space-D project is part of the Space-D programme to build and operate a constellation of nanosatellites. The programme aims to research and develop solutions for the use and applications of space and satellite technology to improve the electric and water networks operations, planning and maintenance activities.

Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park Phase 5

Phase 5 of the solar park will be completed in 2023. Work is currently in progress, adding 900 MW at an estimated cost of 2.07 billion UAE dirhams. The 950 MW Phase 4 is also in progress at the cost of AED 15.78 billion.
