Muscat: The Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR) has given the green light to Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) - sole procurer of the sultanate’s power and water capacity- for floating co-located solar projects to foreign investors.

Located in Manah in Al Dakhiliya Governorate, the two independent power projects ‘ Manah 1 and 2’ are expected to generate a combined production capacity of 1,000 MW.

With a capacity of 500 MW each, the two large-scale solar ventures will contribute to broadening the electricity production with multi alternative resources, and stepping further in implementing the national strategy for net zero by 2050. The two projects’ production will constitute 6.6 per cent of the aggregate power production of the Sultanate of Oman by 2025. As per Oman Vision 2040, the two solar schemes envisaged to bring about 30 per cent to the gross power production by 2030.

Earmarking an area of 15 million m2 , the two projects worth over RO300 mn are hoped to boost the local market and entice foreign investments considerably.

The construction works will commence in the third quarter of the current year. However, the two schemes will come into commercial operation by the mid of 2025.
