The network of paved roads increased by 812km over the past seven years to reach 4,307km in 2021, from 3,495km in 2015.

Assistant under-secretary for roads Kadhim Ali Abdullatif said 21km have been paved this year, bringing the network of main roads to 593km countrywide.

The network of secondary roads has also increased by 173km to reach 920km this month, up from 753km in 2015.

Mr Abdullatif said that growing urbanisation has led to the expansion of the road network across Bahrain.

He stressed the ministry’s strategy to facilitate people’s mobility, and encourage the industrial and commercial sectors through upgrading the road infrastructure.
