France-based infrastructure consulting and engineering firm Egis announced on Thursday that it has been appointed by Saudi Arabia's Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) to provide consultancy services for the development and maintenance of upgraded travel forecast model for the Saudi capital city.
The scope of services includes supporting RCRC in maintaining the existing transport model and developing the updated version by upgrading from 1,500 zones to 3,000 zones, taking into consideration the socio-economic and demographic factors in the city, Egis said in a press statement.
The collected data will be used for calibrating and implementing multi-modal travel forecast models capable of addressing the heavy traffic and people movement issues, the statement said.
Egis said the project will address the anticipated iconic mega projects such as King Salman Park, Qiddiya, Diriyah, Misk City, KAFD, King Abdallah International Gardens, Jewan Housing Project, metro & public transport network extension, as well as to evaluate the performance of the current and future multi-modal transportation system for Riyadh.
The transportation and socio-economic output of the project is expected to support the decision makers and legislators in their plan to maintain, develop and expand the city’s strategic growth.
