Iraq is planning to invest in gas and completely prevent flaring within four years, state-owned Iraq News Agency reported, citing Oil Minister Hayan Abdul-Ghani.

The minister said the ministry plans to invest in utilisation of associated gas, which is now being burned.

Earlier this month, the oil ministry approved increasing associated gas production in the Zubair oilfield to 147 million cubic feet per day.

The ministry is also looking to rehabilitate and empower the Iraqi oil export system.

“We are proceeding with plans and will achieve tangible results during the coming years in a way that will support the national economy,” Abdul-Ghani stated.
