Dubai: World Telugu Federation (WTF), a non-profit, non-political organisation dedicated to fostering a deeper understanding of the society, culture and arts of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, will hold its seventh biennial conference in Dubai. The conference, which will take place from April 12 to 14 at Dubai Airport Expo, will be inaugurated by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The inauguration will also be attended by ministers from Andhra Pradesh.

The event, last held in Bangalore in 2004, is being held for the first time in the region, said Mrs. Indira Dutt, President, World Telugu Federation.  "WTF has completed 14 successful years of fruitful service; our main objective is to foster friendship and goodwill among the Telugu-speaking people across the globe through the medium of workshops, seminars and conferences. From the first annual conference, the organisation has served as a catalyst for qualitative interaction on matters relating to industry and commerce," she said.

The three-day event will also focus on promoting trade and industry opportunities, business investments and tourism in Andhra Pradesh. With leading real estate company Emaar Properties, and Emirates Airline as the main sponsors, the event is also supported by Emirates Post, Cellucom, AGMC and UAE-based Telugu associations - Rasamayi and Telugu Sravanthi. The event is being held under the patronage of Koneru R. Prasad, Chairman and Managing Director, Trimex International. "While, the conference is a opportunity for the Telugu community in the UAE to come together, we also hope that the staging of the event here will encourage deeper relations between this region and Andhra Pradesh - in areas of culture, commerce and industry," said Mr. Prasad.

The event has been divided into three parts: business, exhibition and culture. The business segment of the event will include seminars on trade and industry, women and youth, and a special session on non-resident Andhras residing in the Gulf region. The session on non-resident Andhras residing in the Gulf region will cover social and community issues. Each of the sessions will be lead by key people in their fields.

The exhibition will showcase a mix of business opportunities in the Indian state as well as some of the handicrafts that Andhra Pradesh is noted for. A highlight of the exhibition is the 'Hyderabad Property Show', where visitors will be able to view some of the upcoming real estate projects in the state.

The cultural aspect of the event will comprise of folk dances, music concerts and youth programmes. On April 13, Mani Sharma, a well-known music director of Telugu films, will present a variety entertainment show with songs and dances from popular Telugu films. The show will be held from 9 pm to 11.30 pm at Sharjah Cricket Stadium; megastar and Padmabhushan recipient Chiranjeevi, one of Andhra state's most respected actors will be in attendance.

Those interested in attending the three-day event can register at the venue. While tickets to the entertainment show on April 13 are free to those who have registered for the conference, they are also available to others and are priced at AED 20 and AED 50.
