Dubai April 4th, 2005 - On the occasion of the, 'Week to Combat Hospital Infections', introduced by the Dubai Department of Health and Medical Services (DoHMS), J&J Ethicon has launched a regional roadshow to present medical practitioners with the world's first and only antibacterial suture.

The state-of-the-art product has proven in studies to provide protection against bacterial colonisation of the suture and creates a zone of inhibition that is effective against bacteria that most frequently cause Hospital Acquired Infection (HAIs).

The meetings, held in Jeddah, Riyadh and Kuwait included a presentation by Professor Tony Hau, Sheikh Zayed Military Hospital on the impact of Hospital Acquired Infections (HAIs) and the evolution of treatment options available on the market.

Of the two hundred and ten key opinion leaders who attended the meetings, 90 percent confirmed that the role of leading medical device companies such as J&J Ethicon, should include investment in new infection control technologies. In addition, 88 percent of surgeons stressed the importance of controlling bacterial wound contamination during the operation itself.

Hussein Chaitani, Product Manger, Ethicon Products presented the new Vicryl Plus Antibacterial Suture, detailing J&J Ethicon's commitment to providing state-of-the-art technologies, which may have a significant impact on patients and hospitals by eliminating one of the risk factors contributing to Hospital Acquired Infection (HAIs).
