UPS opens new express operations facility to accommodate growing shipping needs in the UAE
DUBAI, May 27, 2007 - In an expansion drive for 2007, UPS in UAE today announced that it has extended its express operations by opening its largest-ever facility to accommodate the rise in demand for express delivery and logistics solutions in the Emirates.
The new facility has the capacity to meet the challenges of the UAE's increasingly sophisticated business environment and increasing customer demands. The location of the new facility in Al Quoz is strategically situated to service the growing commercial and residential developments taking place in areas such asBusiness Bay, Old Town and Burj Dubai, as well as Dubai Healthcare City.
UPS also expects to introduce the DIAD IV -a new generation of wireless driver handheld computers - into its UAE express operations in the fourth quarter of 2007. This will enable UPS to dramatically reduce its fuel consumption by streamlining route planning, vehicle loading and package delivery.
Currently UPS has three operations facilities located in DAFZA, JAFZA and Abu Dhabi, as well as customer service facilities in Al Ain, Fujairah, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah to serve the needs of its clients in the UAE. The new express operations center will allow UPS to enhance its express services and achieve the company's global vision of offering 'synchronized commerce' to its customers.
"Having established ourselves as one of the key players in the UAE's express sector, we are investing further in our operations to better enable our regional customers to 'synchronize commerce'," said John Tansey, country manager for UPS UAE LLC.
"In recent years we have seen a solid increase in express shipments to and from the UAE, largely due to the rising commercial activities and the country's positive economic growth. The new UPS express facility in UAE is a direct response to that market directive, and enables us to increase our operational capabilities, and improve our overall efficiency and productivity," Tansey added.
Celebrating its centennial anniversary globally and eleventh year in the UAE this year, UPS has offices across all seven emirates and has more than 15 UPS aircraft flying through the Dubai air hub from UPS's European hub in Cologne in Germany, as well as from China, Hong Kong and the Philippines on a weekly basis. This makes UPS's UAE operations an increasingly important gateway and strategic link to the rapidly-expanding markets in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
