Arabic Support Features Prominently in Service Policy

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - UPS has appointed a new sales manager for its Abu Dhabi operations and expanded the size of its operations in the UAE capital, signalling its ongoing intention to enhance customer service and increase awareness of the company's 'synchronized commerce' vision.

Richard Tannous, a Lebanese national, has been appointed to lead business teams in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, with further responsibility to develop new customer service initiatives and logistics offerings.  As part of the role, Tannous will enhance UPS's Arabic-speaking customer relations capacity for its call centre and service counters throughout Abu Dhabi.

"UPS continues to secure planned growth levels within the Abu Dhabi market, particularly in the energy and government sectors," said John Tansey, General Manager of UPS (UAE) LLC. "With more than 15 years of experience in the region's courier market, Richard is an ideal manager to advance UPS's market presence in Abu Dhabi.  He realizes that a critical element of our customer service approach is giving customers a choice - Arabic or English -- on the phone and in person, to ensure that their needs are understood and their express packages are consistently delivered on time and to the correct location."

Having served UPS for almost five years as a Key Account Manager, Tannous will bring this operational experience into enhancing and managing the growth of UPS's Abu Dhabi operations. Recently, a decision was made to double the physical size of the UPS operation in Abu Dhabi.  A key element of this growth is the development of new logistics and handling services for customers across the emirate.

The appointment of Tannous comes soon after the release of UPS' third annual Corporate Sustainability Report, which demonstrates that the company is progressing towards a number of key objectives, such as increasing fuel efficiency, lowering aircraft emissions and reducing employee injury rates.

"The sustainability report is further evidence of our firm commitment to our community and the environment, a commitment which perfectly complements our dedication to customers across the world. UPS is a global leader in customer and community care, and we want UPS UAE to lead the global UPS operation in seeking out ways to maximize accessibility, proactivity and personalized treatment of our users," Tansey continued.

The new sales manager is certainly joining UPS in a position of strength. On Thursday, the company reported a 22.2 percent gain in diluted earnings per share for the second quarter of 2005. This growth was founded on double-digit export volume gains in every international region, with the international sector recording export volume growth in excess of 18 percent.
