United Pharmacists Ltd. Selects J.D. Edwards and IBM eServer iSeries to Enhance Customer Service and Achieve Growth Objectives.

Background
United Pharmacists Ltd. (UPL) is a Canadian-owned co-operative that distributes pharmaceutical drugs and merchandise to independent drug stores in Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan. UPL has been in business for more than 20 years, and has about 60 employees. Most recent revenue figures were approximately $110 million -- the company continues to grow at a rate of almost 20 percent per year.

Customer Challenge
The existing UPL information system did not support the changes that were occurring in the business. It was constraining growth and limiting customer service options, such as e-commerce.

The new system is expected to provide much more functionality "out-of-the-box than the existing system and alleviate dependence on consultants to make constant modifications.

  • Strong presence in the Prairies

  • Existence of a regional user group

  • A 'future-proof ' solution that will grow with United Pharmacists

  • Enables -- rather than constrains -- adaptation to changing channels and markets

  • Strong direct industry references
