Huge Number of Students to participate inHouse of Talents

First batch of Tourism students from Higher Colleges of Technology to participate as well

The annual “House of Talent” exhibition, being organised under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum Al Maktoum, wife of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Defence Minister, at Shindagha, will have huge participation from the student community of UAE this year.
 
It is set to launch the careers of talented women in various fields, amongst who is the first batch of student graduates majoring in tourism from the Dubai Women’s College of Higher Colleges of Technology.
 
These students, a group of ten, will sell their well-researched and cost effective guided tour packages within Dubai and holiday packages abroad to visitors to the House of Talent.  The remarkable aspect of this project is that the students are using the House of Talents to launch their company, ‘Al Tawasul’, which will be affiliated to local tour companies. As an added incentive to the visitors, these students will also invite the visitors to their homes to showcase the lifestyle of the UAE nationals in their immediate home environment.
 
More than 100 students from UAE University will participate through the students’ club, CREATIVE CLUB, and showcase their works of art, while students of Zayed University majoring in arts and fashions etc will also be participating in the exhibition.
 
The exhibition will also dedicate a specific display area, for three-day consecutive periods to students from various UAE based schools, where they can exhibit handcrafted objects.
 
The House of Talents exhibition, a major event of Dubai Shopping Festival aims at encouraging women from all nationalities to display their talents in different fields and expose them to the public and private sectors so that their talent could be developed further through long-term partnerships. Over the years it has helped several women to launch individual businesses and share expertise, and has provided them a window to reach the large community of DSF visitors.
 
Says Ms. Najwa Al Rahma, Research and Development Director at DSF, “Last Dubai Shopping Festival, the House of Talents was very successful in helping young women specializing in photography, handicrafts and designing to start profitable enterprises. This year, we are confident that several others, including the students from the Higher Colleges of Technology will be able to showcase their talents and business acumen on this annual platform.
 
Registrations to the exhibition have been open for a month now, and participants are from various nationalities including UK, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, Yemen, Bahrain and India. The emphasis this year is on quality, and the exhibition will reflect the essence of the prestigious event that attracts thousands of visitors.
 
Those wishing to take part as exhibitors are required to fill up an application form available at the DSF office and submit samples of their creative works for the Selection Committee.
 
The House of Talents exhibition was launched in 1999 featuring works of 72 women housed in 12 rooms. In the year 2000, the number of participants increased to 243 and rooms to 23.
 
In 2001, the exhibition was thrown open to woman of all nationalities and attracted record 300 participants who displayed their works in 65 rooms.  During the successive DSF, the participants came from different nationalities too, and over 70 women launched their products through the exhibition.
 
The House of Talents for DSF 2003 will be held at the Sheikh Obaid Bin Thani House, at Heritage and Diving Village in the Al Shindagah area. This DSF the traditional Arabic exteriors of the House of Talents will contrast the modern interiors created by the exhibitors.
