Sharjah: The UAE Girl Guides Association (UAEGGA) has participated in the virtual 37th World Conference of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), in pursuance of its efforts to restructure its policies and ensure that its strategies align with that of the world body.
Themed ‘Walking Together, Walking Far’, the conference was held recently and saw the participation of 125 member organisations from across the world.
HE Maryam Muhammad Al Rumaithi, Vice President, UAEGG, said: “Under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the UAEGG, we are committed to supporting the guiding movement in the nation and ensuring the sustainability of its activities. Through our participation in this conference, we not only showcased UAEGGA’s work but also learnt from the experiences of other international associations.”
The UAEGGA delegation was led by Board Member Aisha Alsereidi and included Dr Huda Al Matroushi, Director of UAEGG. With a strong and influential presence at the event, the UAEGG team proactively attended and participated in many of the sessions with a view to long-term collaboration and promoting dialogue for mutual benefit.
Speaking about the conference, Aisha Alsereidi said: “Our participation in the conference is part of our efforts to strengthen our presence regionally and globally and share our views and experiences. Together with sister associations from around the world, we discussed general issues as well as amendments to the WAGGGS’ constitution and by-laws, apart from voting and selecting members to the new board. This experience will help support the guiding movement in UAE and aid us in promoting a sense of responsibility in our girls,”
The conference approved the WAGGGS’s 3-year report and the procedures manual and voted on the applications for full membership presented by several countries. The conference also approved the organisation’s future strategic plan, discussed the Girl Guides and Girl Scouts Policy and selected Cyprus to host the next edition of the WAGGGS World Conference.
The World Conference is responsible for formulating the WAGGGS general policies. Member organisations discuss key topics on the global guiding movement at the conference sessions, and vote on proposals received.
