Significant achievement recognises innovation in multiple categories

Dubai, U.A.E. - Product of the Year, an independent and prestigious award to recognise excellence in quality and innovation, voted for by consumers, has awarded three Philips products with 'Product of the Year' status. These include last year's winners the Philips Airfryer and the Philips SensoTouch 3D, in addition to Philips LivingWhites, the new winner this year.

Voted 'Product of the Year' winner in the home cooking appliance category, the Philips AirFryer uses patented Rapid Air Technology combining fast-circulating hot air with grill features. It heats up the ingredients in the basket from all sides, making it a healthy, fast and easy method to prepare tasty food.

The Philips SensoTouch 3D, the advanced electric shaver for men, was voted 'Product of the Year' winner in the male shaving category. The Philips SensoTouch 3D has been designed to effectively minimise skin irritation and offer men with a more comfortable shaving experience, making it easy to achieve the perfect shave. When tested, 80 per cent of men agree that SensoTouch 3D is the most gentle shave on the skin.

Philips LivingWhites was voted as the 'Product of the Year' winner in the lighting category. Philips LivingWhites has a wireless lighting system which allows the luminaires in a room to work together and help to create different atmospheres. Using the Philips LivingWhites remote control, it is now possible to experiment with lights and create favourite lighting scenes and moods.

"Philips strives to improve lives through meaningful innovation and we're very proud that three of our products have been recognised as leaders of multiple categories by consumers across the GCC," said Ozlem Fidanci, General Manager and Vice President of Philips Consumer Lifestyle Middle East, Turkey and Africa. "Research shows that Philips improves the lives of every fourth person on earth and our ambition is to grow this target to 3 billion a year by 2025[i]."

A pre-selected jury, comprising of members of the Dubai Chamber, Federation of GCC Chambers, Saudi Media Association, Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting, French Business Council, International Business Women's Group, American University of Sharjah, and Institute of Management Technology, sampled all competing products and scored them on the basis of innovation. Following that, a face-to-face survey was conducted by TNS where 3,400 consumers across the GCC voted to choose winners in each category.

[i] To calculate how many lives we are improving, market intelligence and statistical data on the number of people touched by the products contributing to the social or ecological dimension over the lifetime of a product are multiplied by the number of those products delivered in a year. After elimination of double counts, the number of lives improved by our innovative solutions is calculated. In 2012 we established our baseline at 1.7 billion a year.
