Advanced firewall and Host Intrusion Prevention capabilities for OfficeScan™ 8.0 stop threats and exploits on endpoints

Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Trend Micro Incorporated (TSE: 4704), a leader in network antivirus and content security software and services, announced today that enterprise endpoints, which are highly exposed to attacks and threats, will be shielded by an arsenal that pro-actively blocks Web threats, hacking attempts and vulnerability exploits. The Intrusion Defense Firewall (IDF) plug-in for OfficeScan 8.0 brings network-level Host Intrusion Prevention System (HIPS) capabilities to the endpoint. With IDF, malicious network communication is intercepted right at the endpoint, before it has a chance to intrude into networks and disrupt users.

Securing a mobile workforce is a high-priority for business of all sizes, and endpoint security needs are complex and diversified. As workers take their laptops in and out of various wireless networks, they are no longer under the protective dome of their corporate network's security. And without traditional corporate security measures such as firewalls, gateway-based malware protection and intrusion prevention systems, endpoints are exposed to outside security threats that could corrupt them and spread into the company's entire network.

Intrusion Defense Firewall, a plug-in for OfficeScan 8.0 (Trend Micro's corporate endpoint security solution), shields vulnerabilities as soon as they are discovered. Enterprise endpoints are protected even before security patches are applied. Installation is fast and simple - IT administrators plug-in the application onto the OfficeScan 8.0 architecture, minimizing time and cost.

Intrusion Defense Firewall combines stateful inspection firewall technology with deep-packet inspection to screen incoming and outgoing network communication. This prevents malicious and potentially harmful content from reaching and disrupting the operating system and common applications, ensuring system stability and user productivity. Legacy applications and systems can be protected by allowing administrators to deploy custom filters, tailored to their specific environment.

"Whether they are in the office or on the road, workers need access to their company's network for email and Web-based applications in order to do their jobs," said Tom Miller, global vice president and general manager of Trend Micro's enterprise business unit. "At the same time, IT managers want security solutions that are effective, quick and easy to deploy, monitor and administer. With the OfficeScan 8.0 plug-in architecture, they can add and manage the latest, customized security features to their network environment."

"We already block attacks and shield our datacenter servers from vulnerability exploits; now, by adding proactive HIPS technology with the Intrusion Defense Firewall plug-in to OfficeScan, we get to extend this type of protection to the rest of our endpoints," said Patricia Long, senior vice president of corporate security at CitiStreet. "It was the logical next step and Trend Micro has made the transition easy."
