Dubai-based Transguard prepares to interview prospective interns for 2015 from Christel House School for underprivileged children in Bangalore - governors laud successful apprenticeship programme during annual visit to Dubai

Dubai-headquartered Transguard Group, recently welcomed a delegation from Christel House, its CSR partnership programme located in Bangalore, India. The board members were in Dubai for an annual review of Transguard's award-winning initiative, and to catch up with 14 former students who are now part of the Transguard Group Management Apprenticeship Scheme.

Launched in 2010, Transguard's partnership with Christel House, offers six talented youngsters each year, a chance to forge successful careers within the company through a two-year in-house vocational training scheme.

"This scheme not only gives our students the opportunity to build a career with Transguard, six of whom have now secured permanent employment with the company, but enables them to send direct financial help to their families and help them to break the cycle of poverty," said Raju Shahani, Managing Director, Christel House.

According to Shahani, at least two Transguard apprentices have been able to relocate their families to better housing, with one funding his brother's university education and another making repayments on a rickshaw taxi for his father, which is greatly benefiting the family's income.

Christel House' Director of Education, Jaya George, and Mini Elias, Head of Development, joined Shahani in Dubai, with the team also invited to attend the Middle East FM Awards, where Transguard was awarded 'CSR Initiative of the Year' in recognition of the continued success of the five year-old programme.

"Transguard remains committed to this initiative as we continue to grow our business, and we will be returning to Bangalore this September to interview potential candidates for the 2015 apprenticeship intake, and also explore other ways in which we can work together," said John Nolan, Managing Director, Transguard.

"Our Christel House apprentices gain invaluable experience across the entire operation. As well as developing their own unique skill set with practical experience, we work hand-in-hand with each individual to build their self confidence, enabling them to go out into the business world and forge successful careers," added Nolan.

In addition to the apprenticeship programme, Transguard also sponsors a classroom of 40 students and holds regular fundraising events.

The initiative covers every aspect of a student's schooling including uniforms, three meals a day, transport, books and health and welfare programmes. The company also provides funds that contribute to teachers' wages and supports the physical upkeep of the school buildings.
