New freight services to provide main boost for revenues in the region

Dubai - TNT Express, leading provider of integrated express services, today announced the launch of its range of freight services for time sensitive heavy shipments in Asia. Available from today[1], a selection of three bespoke services - Express Freight, Economy Freight and Freight Plus - will offer customers a door-to-door, day-definite delivery service based on specified transit times schedules, fast tracked customs clearance and full track and trace visibility.

The move forms part of the company's €100 million investment over the next five years to build a leadership position in the region, a strategy which it announced in April this year. This launch is also the first in a series of initiatives to further expand TNT's network capabilities in Asia, leveraging on the seamless connectivity offered by its extensive road and air networks[2]. These networks provide customers with the widest range of multimodal freight services between Southeast Asia and Europe, China and Europe and within Southeast Asia.

Onno Boots, regional managing director, TNT Southeast Asia said, "With over 18 years of experience in Asia, we have built a freight service that is fast, reliable and cost effective. Compared to traditional freight forwarding, our upfront all-inclusive pricing together with our limited administrative requirements provide customers with greater transparency and increased control over their time-sensitive export and import shipments."

Based on studies undertaken of regional market needs, TNT expects the take up rate of these services to be high. The demand for its freight services is mainly driven by customers in the high-tech, equipment and machinery and healthcare sectors that are increasingly moving large volumes of high-value goods between Southeast Asia, China and Europe. Through its global customer base in these sectors, TNT has developed extensive sector knowledge which can now be leveraged in Southeast Asia. Correspondingly, TNT's freight services are set to be a main business driver for the company over the next five years.

The TNT advantage

Added Onno, "When it comes to moving freight around the world, TNT's competitive advantage lies in
our ability to act as a one-stop-shop with solutions to meet all requirements, regardless of what our customers are shipping. With TNT's streamlined global operations, customers also enjoy the same expedited, high level of service around the clock in every country."

As the market leader with the biggest air and road express delivery infrastructure in Europe, TNT offers
a best-in-class service that is both fast and cost effective.  TNT's recent acquisition Hoau Logistics in China - giving TNT more depots in China than all its competitors[3] as well as an extensive knowledge of Chinese customs requirements - coupled with the recent re-routing of TNT's Boeing 747-400 ER Freighter with thrice weekly freighter service between Singapore, Shanghai and Europe, signals TNT's unrivalled connectivity between Southeast Asia, China and European air and road networks.

With TNT's three new freight services, customers can look forward to benefiting from an integrated, comprehensive global network without any reliance on third party organisations. TNT's expertise in managing all required paperwork and trans-border regulatory matters as a result of this means that customers also experience true door-to-door service.

Editor's Notes:
[1] The three services will be available in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia with immediate effect, with other markets implementing selected services by the end of the second quarter of 2008.

[2] This will largely involve TNT's unique and continuously expanding Asia Road Network which links Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and China by road and enables deliveries up to three times faster than sea freight for significantly less than air freight.

[3] TNT, through its acquisition of Hoau Logistics provides it with the largest private road transportation network in China with an infrastructure of 2,000 vehicles, 56 domestic hubs and 1,250 depots, effectively reaching more than 400 major and medium-sized cities in the country.
