VISS Deputy Principal stresses the role of ICT in education at GESS Education event

Sharjah, UAE: Jim Stearns, Deputy Principal at the Victoria International School of Sharjah (VISS), has highlighted the increasing significance and benefits of applying technology in education.

Speaking to a group of academic specialists at the GESS Lead Meet education event at the World Trade Centre in Dubai, Mr Stearns said technology has become a crucial facilitator in delivering world-class education.

Integrating technology into the classroom brings with it considerable advantages as it fosters a culture of collaboration among students and offers diversity in learning styles, Mr Stearns said.

"Most importantly, it prepares youngsters for future careers, which will inevitably include the use of mobile technology," he said.

"The importance of technology in education is becoming increasingly evident and the difficulties of implementing such an immense change in a school can be very overwhelming. Leaders of schools need to put ICT at the top of their agenda to ensure students grow to embrace technology and the wide-ranging benefits it can offer."

Mr Stearns also addressed how school leaders should approach ICT strategies in these changing times and identified the main problems that occur in its implementation.

"VISS prides itself on our ICT program to enhance the delivery of our curriculum and give our students the tools to be successful in tomorrow's world," he said.

Mr Stearns possesses over twenty years of experience in education and ICT at various institutions where he has held leadership roles. As an advocate of encouraging ICT in education, he has also advised schools in the UK on the implementation of their technology programs.

Mr Stearns says he is proud to be leading ICT at VISS, which has a good track record of success in this area. This has included the launch of a successful iPad education into the school and investing in cutting-edge technology to provide its students with an outstanding learning experience. Recently, the school introduced an advanced 3D printer that has sparked interest across schools in the region.

VISS offers an Australian curriculum, as well as International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, and provides a rigorous academic program for its students.
