Course to Facilitate the Increase in Demand for Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language in the UAE
Dubai, United Arab Emirates: To meet the rise in demand for professional Arabic language courses, The British University in Dubai (BUiD) has partnered with the Centre for the Advanced Study of the Arab World (CASAW), to provide the first-of-its-kind intensive programme in teaching Arabic as a foreign language.
The intensive course, taking place from 9-13 of May at Uptown School Dubai, has been designed by CASAW for teachers of Arabic to non-native speakers.
This course is the first-of-its-kind in the UAE with the aim to raise the standard of the teaching of Arabic in the academic institutions and schools across the country UAE.
The CASAW Teaching Arabic course is designed to help participants design and deliver Arabic classes in a dynamic and communicative manner which ensures a high level of student motivation and rapid academic progress in all four language skill-areas: speaking, listening, reading and writing.
"More and more people are learning Arabic across the region, whether it is business or social interactions. This course is part of our professional development unit, where we offer specialised fast track training in response to the growing regional demand for first-rate Arabic language programmes," said Professor Abdullah Alshamsi, Vice-Chancellor, BUiD.
The course shows clearly that the latest thinking in the teaching of English as a foreign language (EFL) can be applied to Arabic with relative ease. Participants will be given the opportunity to teach real 'live' Arabic classes and given constructive feedback by tutors and peers.
Participants at the course will learn a range of skills including communicative teaching methodology, effective lesson planning, course design, student monitoring and evaluation, designing language drills, and self-evaluation.
Applicants to the course must be teachers of Arabic (with native or near-native competence in Arabic) or teachers of another subject who are interested in teaching Arabic.
