Record achievement highlights Tetra Pak's commitment to make food safe and available everywhere while reducing its environmental footprint.

Jeddah - Tetra Pak has delivered 200 billion packages labelled with the Forest Stewardship Council™ (FSC™) logo by the end of April 2016.

The record achievement highlights Tetra Pak's commitment to make food safe and available everywhere while reducing its environmental footprint.

Since 2007, the number of Tetra Pak cartons bearing the FSC logo has increased steadily each year to reach 54 billion in 2015.  And the company expects that trend to accelerate as awareness amongst consumers grows ever higher.

Commenting, Neils Hougaard Managing Director Tetra Pak Arabia Area, said: "With increasing consumer interest in environmental issues and sustainability, companies are starting to communicate their impact on the environment and the actions they are taking in a transparent way. The FSC logo enables consumers to choose brands that are committed to sustainable forestry."

Founded in 1994 by a group of non-governmental organisations, timber users and traders, FSC is widely recognised as the highest global certification standard for forest management. For a product to carry the FSC label there must be an unbroken Chain of Custody certification for all relevant sites. Tetra Pak has completed the certification for all converting plants and market companies and can supply FSC-labelled packages from anywhere in the world.

Driving environment excellence is one of Tetra Pak's strategic priorities. As part of this agenda, the long term ambition is to deliver all packages with the FSC label.

In the Greater Middle East and Africa (GME&A)  Tetra Pak operates in 49 countries, where it has 9 market companies, 21 sales offices and 5 converting plants. In the Arabia area of the GME&A, Tetra Pak is present in 11 countries and has offices located in Dubai, Jordan (Amman), Kuwait City, Lebanon (Beirut), Saudi Arabia (Jeddah and Riyadh), and Yemen (Sana'a). In addition, there is a Tetra Pak converting plant in Jeddah.

ABOUT TERTA PAK AND FSC
Tetra Pak launched the first FSC-labelled carton package in 2007. The following year, 2008, it sold around 100 million FSC-labelled packages worldwide, and in 2014 it reached more than 4.4 billion (i.e. 18% of the packages we sell globally carries the FSC™ label). A significant constraint to making FSC-labelled packages available everywhere is the limited supply of FSC certified wood, with only 15% of the world's forests certified today. Tetra Pak continues to work with different stakeholders to support increased FSC certification of forests, with the ultimate aim of producing all of its cartons using wood fibre from responsibly managed forests with FSC certification.

Tetra Pak's policy is to promote good health among consumers globally, by providing nutritious liquid foods that are safe, hygienic and of the highest quality.  The company has been engaged in various community services and environmental activities as part of its commitment to promoting good corporate citizenship through concrete actions.
