Tekla Experts to Highlight Advantages of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in Construction
Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Build Smart is set to become one of the most important conferences for the region's construction industry, and the emphasis will be on the importance of technology and how this can help cut costs, eliminate waste, and protect investments in construction.
buildingSMART ME will be officially launched at Build Smart 2009, 15-16 November 2009, at the Yas Marina Hotel in Abu Dhabi.
Tekla has played an active role in bringing the first build smart conference to the Middle East and Tahir Sharif, Managing Director, Tekla ME and President of buildingSMART ME, will deliver the keynote speech at the conference.
"buildingSMART ME will play a crucial role in driving the transformation of the region's construction industry, it will promote, adapt and improve standards for interoperability," said Sharif.
buildingSMART ME is a non-profit organisation. It promotes the advantages of technology and business process standards. Conference delegates will be shown how productivity, communication, efficiency and sustainability can be improved in construction and facilities management.
The conference will also provide a gold-plated business development and networking opportunity. Panel sessions have been designed to illustrate how BIM and interoperability can facilitate growth.
The construction industry in the Middle East remains one of the most vibrant, even in the current global downturn. buildingSMART ME will offer decision makers solutions that will help them address the inefficiencies that are affecting profitability.
Speakers at the conference include:
Bjørn K Stangeland
Co-CEO, buildingSMART International
Leif Granholm, Senior Vice President, Country Director B&C Nordic Area, Tekla
Tahir Sharif, President, buildingSMART ME.
buildingSMART ME is part of buildingSMART International and is the Regional Alliance for the Middle East and North Africa. Initial operations will focus on the UAE and its neighbours, particularly Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman and Egypt, but buildingSMART ME will respond to specific opportunities across the entire region.

Tekla
Tekla's model-based software products make customers' core processes more effective in building, construction, and infrastructure management. Tekla Corporation has area offices and partner organisations worldwide. International operations account for more than 80% of net sales. Founded in 1966, Tekla is one of the longest operating software companies in Finland. Tekla's technology creates new opportunities for the construction industry.
Tekla Structures, the most advanced BIM (Building Information Modelling) software on the market, provides an accurate, dynamic, and data-rich 3D environment that can be shared by contractors, structural engineers, steel detailers and fabricators, as well as concrete detailers and manufacturers. The highly detailed as-built structural models created in Tekla Structures enable the highest level of constructability and production control. Centralising model and non-model based data into the model allows for more collaborative and integrated project management and delivery. This translates into increased productivity, elimination of waste, and an enhanced value for structural modelling.
