Huawei partners with industry experts to show how use of digital information can provide a competitive edge to regional organizations

Dubai, UAE - October 19, 2013: As the volume of digital information continues to grow at an exponential rate across the Middle East, Huawei--a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider--has teamed up with organizers of this week's GITEX Technology Week to offer local businesses a wealth of tools & techniques for using big data to create a competitive advantage in their industry.  Such insights will be the focus of the first ever GITEX Big Data Conference being held on October 22 at Dubai World Trade Center, of which Huawei is a Platinum Sponsor.

Whether measuring consumer sentiment, optimizing supply chains or detecting fraud, the concept of "Big Data" is creating new opportunities for organizations across vertical industries--from government entities to those working in healthcare, transportation, education, and more. However, existing storage infrastructure is not well matched to the high volumes of data being accumulated by these enterprises. Unless care is exercised, experts recognize that critical information will be subject to security risks with grave consequences to their business.

"The growth of data and the wisdom it contains is revolutionizing the way business operates and supports customers. This transformation presents both an opportunity and a challenge," says Mr. Ronald Raffensperger, Chief Technology Officer of IT Solution Sales at Huawei, who is a keynote speaker at the Conference. "To harness the potential of this technology, more and more organizations in the Middle East realize that they must learn new techniques for storing, securing and analyzing this information."

During his keynote, Mr. Raffensperger and forum participants will review how organizations can leverage massive amounts of digital information for developing strategic insights that drive business growth. This will include effective storage and processing strategies as well as detailing the types of security required for big data.

In step with the strategic impact of big data on local industries, Huawei has created a set of Big Data solutions under the banner of FusionInsight to help organizations get business value from this tsunami of data.

According to market intelligence firm IDC, over 40% of CIOs in the Middle East have reported that they are scoping investments in analytics and big data technologies in 20131. The group has previously estimated that by 2020 the amount of data in the world is likely to increase by a factor of 50. Even more astounding, the world's unstructured data--containing everything from social media feeds to video streaming--is expected to grow by up to 63 percent each year, and will account for up to 90 percent of all data created over the next decade.

All of Huawei's latest solutions and products can be found at GITEX in the GULFCOMMS sector in Zabeel Hall, stand Z-E20. For further information, visit enterprise.huawei.com/topic/GITEX2013_en/index.html
