Dubai - A fifteen member team from Cedars yesterday visited Jafza (Jebel Ali Free Zone) and Techno Park officials to discuss details of the Dh 1.15 billion (US$320 million) 'Cedars International' project being set up in Techno Park.
The team, which included Mr. Klaus-Peter Murawski, the Mayor of Stuttgart, General Administration and Hospitals Department, Dr Adnan Kaddaha, Chairman & Managing Director, Cedars Jebel Ali International Hospital, and some leading German industrialists, met Mrs. Salma Hareb, CEO Jafza and Economic Zones World and Hamad Al Hashemi, Managing Director, Techno Park along with other senior officials of Jafza, and Cedars Jebel Ali International Hospital.
Salma Hareb, CEO Jafza and Economic Zones World, the parent company of Techno Park, said: "Cedars International envisages the setting up of an integrated medical complex on 100,000 sq metres of land, for which the preliminary lease agreement has already been signed on Tuesday [January 23, 2007]. The project is in line with Techno Park vision of creating R&D clusters supported with clusters of related beneficiary industries.
"When complete in 2010, the proposed project will create a hub for Germany's world-renowned medical equipment and instruments industry in Techno Park."
The Cedars International medical complex, to be headed by Dr. Adnan Kaddaha, Chairman and Managing Director Cedars Jebel Ali International Hospital, will comprise of a medical industrial complex housing various German medical equipment and instrument makers, pharmaceutical units, a university hospital, a faculty of medicine, a trauma center, a rehabilitation center, a research center, a school of nursing, a paramedical school, a medical technology school, a hospital management school and a residential apartment complex.
Hamad Al Hashemi, Managing Director, Techno Park said:"This is the first time a German medical University has agreed to go out of Germany, and I am happy to note Dubai is their city of choice.
"This unique medical complex, the first of its kind in the entire region, will help facilitate the transfer of know-how between Germany and the UAE, by providing German standards of teaching research and medical care, covered by German insurance and billing companies," Al Hashemi added.
The visiting delegation held an open discussion with the Jafza / Techno Park Team, and later visited Jafza and Techno Park to review the project location and its surrounding areas.
