Promethean Arabic Planet competition winners announced

Dubai, 3 April 2012 - Promethean, a global education company, has awarded a school in Oman and a teacher in Egypt first and second place respectively, as winners of the Promethean Arabic Planet competition which ran from November 2011-February 2012.

Umayyah bint Qais school from North Batinah, Oman won first place successfully uploading more than 200 lessons contributing to the 2300 resources currently available on Arabic Planet. This is the largest number of lesson plans to ever be shared by a single school and resulting in the school winning a Promethean ActivExpression set.

As part of the online competition an individual winner was also awarded. Ms. Nashwa Shamel from Alexandria, Egypt uploaded 142 lessons to Arabic Planet during the four month period.

Commenting on the Arabic Planet competition, Promethean's Middle East Vice President, Majeed Sharaf said: "Arabic Planet provides teachers throughout the region access to an online community housing resources created by other teachers and by Promethean. I am delighted that so many teachers and schools across the region are using and benefitting from this immense resource. It is encouraging to see so many interactive lessons being uploaded on Arabic Planet and I am pleased to announce these winners and award them their prizes".

Fatima Al Raisi; the ActivClassroom supervisor in Umayya's school in Oman commented on the competition: "We participated in this competition because Promethean Planet is a community for all teachers to share information and it helps to develop education techniques as technology becomes more and more prevalent in the classroom. As a school we set an aim to exchange experiences amongst all 70 teachers in the school, learning from each other and sharing classroom experiences through Arabic Planet. Participating in the competition also created awareness amongst the whole school of the importance of utilising technology in the classroom, and the positive effects it has on student engagement and creativity."

Promethean Planet, the world's largest interactive whiteboard community site, is a platform enabling teachers to engage with one another and share a wide variety of classroom and technology experiences. The "Planet Teacher" competition launched on Promethean Planet's Arabic platform, Arabic Planet, asked teachers to create and upload lesson plans in order to generate knowledge and share among teachers throughout the region.
