Kuwait, 1 September 2014 - Tawasul Telecom, the leading provider of MPLS networking services in the Middle East and the Gulf region has extended its roots in the GCC by signing an agreement with Equinix to have  a second Point of Presence (PoP) in the United Arab Emirates hosted by Equinix IBX DX1 data center in Dubai.

Through this agreement, Tawasul Telecom has diversified its international Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) gateway to the Middle East by opening up new data routes to Dubai, and simultaneously offering regional businesses a greater range of solutions tailored to meet their connectivity needs. Through the deployment in Equinix's IBX DX1 data center in Dubai, Tawasul Telecom will strengthen its access to Equinix's carrier-dense ecosystem of more than 25 network providers.

Commenting on Tawasul's new partnership, Hani al Shaks, CEO, Tawasul Telecom said: "our prime aim is to broaden our deliverables and enrich customers experience, therefore we chose to work with Equinix for the second time, the first being our Point of Presence in Singapore, to help  expand our services and provide easy access to customers and global partners, as well as increase the quality of interconnectivity across an extensive digital supply chain, while maintaining Tawasul Telecom's high technical standards.

"the increase in demand for communication and applications is driving the need for advanced telecom infrastructures to host and transmit data and Tawasul is keen to cater to this need by constantly evolving our network and service offerings. The opening of our second UAE Point of Presence at Equinix IBX in Dubai is another step in Tawasul Telecom's strategic development" concluded Al Shakhs.

From his end, Jeroen Schlosser, Managing Director of Equinix MENA, said, "The addition of Tawasul Telcom's PoP will be a valuable addition to our ecosystem and contribute to the growth of our regional carrier community. The deployment will also provide Tawasul Telecom customers with industry-leading colocation services, a strong interconnection with regional and global carriers and access to an increasing number of large enterprises."

"Providing access to multiple networks on Platform Equinix will also enable Tawasul Telecom to optimize transit routes to achieve lower latency and deliver improved application performance for carriers and enterprises looking to expand in the Middle East region," added Schlosser.

Platform Equinix will enable Tawasul Telecom to interconnect with a large marketplace for revenue-generating opportunities. Equinix's existing carrier customers will also be able to connect their IT infrastructure directly to Tawasul Telecom services.
