Winner of 2 Arab Health Awards, Tawam Hospital, hosts elaborate award recognition ceremony for its staff

Al Ain, February 17th 2009: Tawam Hospital in affiliation with Johns Hopkins Medicine, showed its appreciation and thanks to its staff on Monday 16th February at AL Ain Rotana by hosting an elaborate award recognition ceremony.

The award ceremony celebrated the two awards that Tawam won at Arab Health 2009; Specialist Achievement Award - Surgery, Specialist Achievement Award - Information Technology.

Commenting on Tawam's success at the 2009 Arab Health award, CEO of Tawam Hospital, Mr. Michael Heindel said:

Tawam Hospital won 2 awards out of the six that they were nominated for, Specialist Achievement Award - Surgery Specialist Achievement Award - Information Technology.    

The submission title for the Surgery Award was; Minimally Invasive Thoracic Surgery Center with contributions by Consultant Dr. Amgad Elsherif and Senior Consultant Dr.Sayed Elsiah.    This minimally invasive thoracic surgery has been demonstrated as safe and highly effective at Tawam with higher patient satisfaction, better cosmetic outcome and no need to hospitalize the patient. 

The submission title for the Specialist Achievement Award - Information Technology was Tele-Medicine with contributions by Mr. Brian de. Francesca, Chief Operating Officer, Karen Reid, HIS-Radiology and Ahmed Al Jenaibi, Acting IT Manager.

The telemedicine initiative is the complete implementation and integration of the Hospital Information Systems, Picture Archiving and Communication System, Tele radiology services and related tele-services. Allowing access to healthcare personnel and information, independent of physical location, the Telemedicine initiative has had tremendous positive impact on patient care by improving the quality of care, improving safety, reducing errors; and allowing Tawam to provide better service faster. To date, Tawam are now getting more accurate radiology reports into the hands of attending physicians 88% more quickly than before.

The other categories that Tawam Hospital were nominated in were; Specialist Achievement Award - Imaging and Diagnostics, , Specialist Achievement Award - Quality Healthcare Improvement Initiative and Specialist Achievement Award - Emergency Medical Services, Infection Control Initiative Award.

Tawam Hospital, which is managed by John Hopkins Medicine is owned and operated by SEHA, the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company [which is responsible for the curative activities of all the public hospitals and clinics in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.]
