Abu Dhabi – Abu Dhabi Waste Management Center (Tadweer) has launched a virtual lecture series to elevate awareness about its waste management efforts among the employees of various government entities in Abu Dhabi.

The series includes eight awareness sessions, two of which are held in September, and the remainder in October and November, 2021.

Covering an array of topics related to proper waste handling, waste reuse and recycling, importance of reducing food waste, and useful tips, the lectures series targets the employees of ten government agencies in Abu Dhabi. They include Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development, Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council, Abu Dhabi Police GHQ - Saif Bin Zayed Academy, Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, Department of Municipalities and Transport, Abu Dhabi City Municipality, Al Ain City Municipality, Al Dhafra Region Municipality, and Integrated Transport Center.

His Excellency Dr Salem Al Kaabi, Director General of Tadweer, said: “Tadweer carries out regular initiatives as part of its mandate to elevate awareness among various segments of society, including the employees of government entities given their crucial role in providing various services to the members of community.

 “The effective management, treatment and recycling of different types of waste including household waste is a top priority for Tadweer. Household waste can be utilized as an important resource for the national economy through its effective reuse and recycling.

“To promote awareness about the advantages of proper waste handling and recycling, Tadweer will continue its awareness campaigns and initiatives targeting different public and private entities in Abu Dhabi,” Al Kaabi added.  

Tadweer is making constant efforts to promote optimal utilization of different types of waste including household waste.

A major source of solid waste, household waste is turned into new products benefitting both the environment and society. Depending on peoples’ lifestyles, household waste varies from family to family such as food leftovers, food-processing materials, wood, plastic, aluminum cans, glass, Cardboard, paper, farm waste and fallen stock.

Abu Dhabi Waste Management Center (Tadweer) is a government entity set up in 2008 under the directives of the UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to build an integrated waste management system in Abu Dhabi and promote sustainable waste management practices in the emirate. To achieve the optimal utilization of natural resources and turn waste into a valuable economic resource, the Center has implemented several projects and offer a wide range of services across three vital sectors including operations, strategy, and business development and support services, and their affiliated departments. Through these departments, Tadweer manages several dedicated facilities and projects, and provides pest control and other best-in-class services to its customers. Furthermore, Tadweer conducts a series of public awareness programs to encourage different segments of society to adopt an environmentally conscious culture and contribute to creating a healthy, safe and sustainable environment in line with the objectives of Abu Dhabi Vision 2030.
