Dubai, UAE : As the Middle East and North Africa region’s (MENA) largest trade exhibition for confectionary and snacks professionals, yummex Middle East, organised by Dubai World Trade Centre in partnership (DWTC) with Koelnmesse GMBH, provides local and international sweets and snack producers with a gateway to a regional market, that is projected for annual growth of 5 per cent.

Almost 300 companies from more than 40 countries exhibited their latest products and innovations at yummex Middle East 2018 to meeting the changing market dynamics and consumer preferences.

“Our international exhibitors are seeing the growth potential of this and acknowledging the opportunities participation at yummex Middle East presents to them, particularly as we get closer to the Expo 2020,” said Fabian Ströter, Director of Koelnmesse GmbH, strategic partner of yummex East.

“With the many challenges we see around the world and the region, this is a very stable market, which continues to grow. Dubai brings a multitude of opportunities, not just in the domestic market but as a re-export hub to the wider MENA region and beyond. By being here, exhibitors learn what works and what doesn’t for this region and are adapting accordingly.”

Amongst those marking their mark at yummex Middle East were a host of first-time participants hoping their debut will turn into sweet success in the region.

Branching out with Austrian apples

Austria-based Appletines decided to make a first trip to the Middle East based on a recommendation of a friend. And the brand’s organic apple pieces coated in organic chocolate in a variety of flavours has been a hit with show visitors. Meeting the changing consumer trends for product upscaling and fruit-based snacks, the makers hope large-scale interest will lead to wide-scale distribution across the region.

Made in Mexico

Mexican chocolate maker Continental Best made an impression with a first outing at yummex Middle East for its Vanuato Kakaw. The firm’s Coffee Moka, coffee beans covered in Milk chocolate, was nominated for the ‘Best Chocolate Product’ at the yummex Middle East Innovation Awards 2018.

From Russia with Love

United Confectioners (UniConf), Russia’s leading confectionary company and the largest producer of sweets in Eastern Europe, made its first foray in the Middle East market at this week’s show. The company, which producers more than 3,500 different confectionary items for 19 brands, unveiled its new ‘Neo Botanica’ range of no-added sugar chocolate with cereals and fruit pieces.

A taste of Italian indulgence

FG La Pasta, an Italian food producer based in South Africa decided on a first foray to yummex Middle East after a visit from a Dubai-based packaging professional, who suggested the firm’s Brutti e Buoni biscuits would be perfect for the GCC market. Comprising a combination of almonds, hazelnuts and meringue, the light, healthy biscuit offers an alternative snack or a perfect gift. Brutii e Buoni is also a popular alternative to a wedding cake.
