Global thought leaders join Alan Thomson, Managing Director of Abu Dhabi Sewerage Services Company on prestigious speaker line up.

Abu Dhabi, 10 September, 2014: Thought leaders in water and wastewater management will be descending upon Abu Dhabi to help map out plans for the sustainability of the Middle East's water supply.

John Woodhouse of the Woodhouse partnership, David Harris from the Public Authority for Electricity and Water (PAEW) of Oman, and Tim Kay from Black & Veatch have been added to the growing list of local, regional and international water management experts that will be participating at the upcoming WaterWorld Middle East Conference and Exhibition (WWME).

During the conference's newly introduced Asset Management Session, to be held on 14 October, the three panelists will be elaborating on the increasing importance of asset management in any corporate water strategy and the priority that needs to be given towards the implementation of sustainable practices.

"There is an increasing need for utilities to have a better grasp of their infrastructure assets, from water production through to distribution," said Tom Freyberg, Conference Director for WaterWorld Middle East. "The focus of our conference is to ensure that asset managers are well informed of global best practices in asset management and to introduce local utilities companies to the best technology the marketplace has to offer to help them realize their financial targets and sustainability goals."

The WaterWorld Middle East Conference and Exhibition will run in tandem with POWER-GEN Middle East from 12 to 14 October at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). The event will bring together the region's leading plant owners and operators, consultants, utilities, investors and academics, with representatives of over 80 companies from 30 countries.

A leading authority in asset management, John Woodhouse will chair and present in the new session during which he will elaborate on this past experience while working with power and water utilities from around the world. His presentation is entitled, "Asset Management in Utility Networks: Case Studies of Moving from Good Intentions to Good Practices."

David Harris is a principal consultant with PAEW, which offers services in the areas of asset management, regulatory compliance management, capital programme and project management, and IT governance. Harris will deliver a paper on, "Utility Asset Improvement for Water Supply: Practical Experience from Oman."

Tim Kay is an Asset Management Consultant with Black & Vetch, the organization that is leading a large scale transformation programme for a government utility entity in Abu Dhabi. Kay will present a paper on asset management improvements within the Abu Dhabi Distribution Company (ADDC).

"The involvement of these esteemed speakers underlines the increasing importance of asset management and the introduction of new technology to water control strategies, said Freyberg. "With the latest software and technology now allowing water companies to pre-empt asset replacement, we are ushering in a new era of sustainable water and wastewater management, while better controlling the significant investment that will be required to ensure future demands are met, a combination that will further enhance stability of the region's water supply."

Other organisations speaking at WWME 2014 include the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company and CH2M HILL.
