Promotions and entertainment prove to be instant crowd-pullers
DOHA, Qatar: Four of Doha's leading shopping malls have once again underlined their support to the ongoing Qatar Summer Wonders festival 2004 by embarking on a month-long celebration that includes attractive promotions and imaginative entertainment ideas to lure crowds to their various outlets throughout the month of July.
The Mall, Landmark Mall, Hyatt Plaza and City Center joined the Summer Wonders celebrations by introducing top-notch performers from around the world to entertain customers besides Festival mascot, Bshara, amusing onlookers with his antics. A colourful repertoire of jugglers, clowns, balloon artists, stilt-walkers and magicians combine their entertainment skills every day to create a carnival-like atmosphere in the malls.
Explaining that the shopping malls were major contributors to the success of the Qatar Summer Wonders in the past, Fred van Eijk, CEO, Qatar Tourism Authority, said: "With many entertainment activities moving indoors during the Summer Festival, the malls have added a brilliant new dimension to our celebration by introducing innovative entertainment ideas in their regular calendar of Summer Wonders activities. I am confident that the sheer scale of activities they offer will have their visitors screaming for more."
The performances are rotated between the four malls in order to entertain all visitors all the time. Joining the exciting line-up of activities are colourful characters such as Carnival Jesters, Sergeant Pepper & Colonel Salt Doorman, Moondresses, Fish Heads, Peacock, Chunky Bits, Icicles, Wizard Parade, Queen & Jester, Ali & Baba, Witchdoctors, Aerial Angels, Professor Soopid & Mr. Stinky, Emu Safari, Mermaids, Cyber Cops, Circus Safari, Bubble Juggler, Giant Bugs, Calypso characters, clowns, jugglers, balloon artistes and many more.
Van Eijk added that many of the activities at the malls have been carefully selected in order to appeal to people of all age groups while combining education, entertainment and value-for-money shopping under one roof. "One of the major achievements these activities have accomplished is being informative but in an entertaining way," he pointed out. "These activities will undoubtedly boost the talents and skills of children and keep them entertained all through summer."
At the same time, visitors will also have the opportunity to meet Bshara who will make his daily appearance in the various malls at select times. At the City Center, the gazelle will be available at 12 pm, 6 pm and 10 pm while the Landmark Mall will host him at 2 pm. On the other hand, the Hyatt Plaza and The Mall will be his rendezvous at 4 pm and 8 pm respectively.
The City Center has emerged as a major hotspot of Summer Wonders activities. Besides hosting the Heritage Village, which opened on Friday on Level 3, this major landmark is showcasing Qatari heritage and folkloric groups to entertain visitors on weekends.
