x- enables MBC to deliver live broadcast of Elton John concert
Sony Broadcast and Professional has delivered a state-of-the-art OB (Outside Broadcasting) to MBC – one of the region’s major broadcasting companies - to support the station’s wide-ranging programming needs. Sony was selected by MBC to update its broadcast technology when the latter relocated its main headquarters from London to the Dubai Media City last year.
The first broadcast from the new MBC Sony OB van was the live link-up of the much-awaited Elton John concert in Dubai.
“Sony has equipped the OB van with the latest technology and has been specifically tailored for MBC’s broadcasting requirements,” said Hassan Ghoul, General Manager – Sales, Sony Broadcast & Professional Middle East. “The OB van is the latest in a series of equipment, solutions and services that have been provided by Sony over the past twelve months to strengthen and support MBC’s news gathering and broadcast operations.”
The 11m articulated OB vehicle that has been custom-designed to MBC’s requirements has eight resident triax-based cameras and one microwave link camera. The internal layout has been designed to maximize operational efficiency and boasts four operational areas including Engineering, Main Production, VT (Video Tape) and Audio Production. Key features include state-of-the-art digital Sony Cameras, digital Sony Vision Mixer and 3D effects, microwave camera system for portable live shooting and a fully equipped 48 channel automated audio mixing console. The flexible and sophisticated facilities in the OB can be used to fulfill a wide range of programming needs, from light entertainment and drama to the most demanding of musical and sports programmes.
Said Ihab Baba, Technical Director, MBC: “The Sony OB van fulfills our outside broadcast requirements perfectly and will enhance our local production resources to enable us to cover sports and entertainment events such as the Elton John concert. Viewers across MBC’s footprint in the region were able to enjoy the performance, and we are set to bring them more such events in the future.”
Since 1996 Sony Broadcast & Professional has delivered 13 Outside Broadcast vehicles to various television stations in the Middle East region and has a proven track record for delivering high technology solutions for its customers.
“Key to the success of any high technology project is clear indication of the business requirement and the technology options applicable for a solution. To ensure that each project delivers maximum business benefits to its customers, Sony's approach to projects is to act as partner with its customers. This provides a constructive working relationship that ensures a productive environment for the lifecycle of the project and beyond.” concluded Hassan Ghoul.
