The new charger can be used for charging all models of mobile phones as well as CD players and digital cameras
Dubai, December 1, 2004: A revolutionary solar-powered charger that can be used for charging all models of mobile phones as well as entertainment devices like CD players and digital cameras has been launched for the Middle East market by Promocell Export Division, a UAE-based trading group.
The portable charger, being marketed under the brand name "Power Pack", works as a power storage unit. It can be charged under direct exposure to sun or under incandescent light or through DC, and offers six months standby mode. The new charger offers higher charger capacity than the conventional DC chargers used for charging mobile phones.
"The launch of Power Pack will bring convenience to mobile phone users because they do not have to look for an electricity plug point to charge their mobiles," said Mr. P. Ramnath, Managing Director, Promocell Export Division. "Power Pack is based on Japanese technology that ensures total charger capacity of 2400 mAh, compared to a standard mobile phone charger capacity of just 550-750 mAh."
The Middle East is among the fastest growing markets for cellular phones, with mobile connections outnumbering land lines in most countries. In addition, the availability of sunlight all round the year makes solar-powered chargers both a convenience and a necessity.
"Power Pack comes with charge plugs to fit any model of mobile phones. Combined pins used for charging mobile phones with solar energy can also be provided with the basic kit. The charger is not affected by high temperatures and exposure to excessive sunlight, making it ideal for Gulf climate," added Mr. Ramnath.
Power Pack offers a 15-year warranty, and in the event of any damage, the company will offer a new unit or a replacement.
Power Pack will be available at all major outlets in the GCC.
