31 January 2011
Siemens Water Technologies will participate in the Water Arabia 2011 show by hosting a pre-conference workshop on basic industrial wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) design, presenting three technical papers, and displaying a model of the recently developed EcoRight MBR system for wastewater treatment in its booth (#16 - 19). Sponsored by the Saudi Arabian Water Environment Association (SAWEA), the show will be held at the Gulf International Convention and Exhibition Center in Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain from January 31 - February 2, 2011. Its core theme, "Innovative water and wastewater technologies for a sustainable environment," helps highlight the importance of water sustainability in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

On January 31, Siemens' pre-conference workshop will begin at 8:00 and end at 15:00, in the Gulf Hotel and Conference Center in Manama, Bahrain. Throughout the day, Siemens experts will discuss various industrial wastewater treatment topics such as produced water treatment, refinery and ethylene spent caustic treatment, industrial odor control, wastewater recycle and reuse, and food and beverage wastewater treatment.

Siemens water experts will also present three technical papers at the conference. On February 1, Tom Schultz will speak about how international regulations affect WWTP design (14:00) and John Kiernan, on low energy desalination (14:30). At 9:00 on February 2, Mike Howdeshell will discuss walnut shell filters' reuse potential.

Exhibition attendees that visit Siemens' Booths # 16 - 19 will also see the working model of the EcoRight MBR system, a technology that Siemens collaborated on developing with Aramco Overseas Company, B.V., a subsidiary of Saudi Aramco. The carbon-enhanced MBR system combines three technologies - membrane separation, biological processes, and activated carbon - into a single wastewater treatment step to treat high-strength organic wastewaters and to produce high-quality water that can be direct-discharged into the environment or reused within an industrial plant for various purposes.

Other technologies displayed in the Siemens booth will include models of the Monosep high-flow walnut shell filter, an ultrafiltration (UF) membrane, and a ZABOCS biotrickling filter (BTF) unit. Siemens experts will also be available to discuss blowers for use in wastewater aeration systems, water for petroleum industry downstream and upstream needs, recycle/reuse, mobile/temporary water treatment services, and municipal water and wastewater treatment.
