Siemens to provide chemical and carbon scrubber systems

Siemens Qatar today announced that its specialist unit Siemens Water Technologies will provide French company VINCI Construction with odor reducing technology for VINCI's pump station 70 in Al Kheisa, Qatar. Under the project contract, valued at approx. $3.5 million, Siemens will provide the latest gas scrubbing solutions for the North Doha Pumping Station, which will be able to treat up to 170,000m3/hour of odorous air .

After planned completion of the project in mid 2011, the area will be free from the recurrent problem of odors in the local area, as 99% of contaminants, including hydrogen sulphide, will be eliminated through a hybrid solution consisting of chemical multi-stage scrubbers followed by activated carbon adsorbers.

VINCI, with very limited space to install the odor control equipments, was looking for a multistage chemical system that only Siemens was able to deliver. The system, designed to minimize space requirements, arrives at the job site completely assembled and of unitary construction.  To date Siemens has more than 2000 odor control installations in operation worldwide.

Siemens will provide odor control systems for the four main odor producing sources in the pump station, including the inlet screen chambers, lifting pump station, forwarding pump station and interceptor sewer.

Martin a Porta, CEO, Siemens Qatar, said; "These odor control systems are vital in making sure odors are not released into the atmosphere and this project will ensure that 99.9% of odor creating pollutants are removed from the emissions emanating from the facility."

"We are very proud to sign our first contract with VINCI Construction in the Middle East, as we have strong relationships with them through their France headquarters and are more than satisfied to have the opportunity to extend our excellent relations".

The $3.5 million contract was awarded by the consortium building the facility, a joint venture between VINCI Construction, QDVC and Entrepose Contracting. The project will be managed by Siemens LLC in UAE and on the ground in Qatar.
