The DHL Sheraton Charity Golf Day held yesterday proved to be a success. Sheraton Abu Dhabi Resort and Towers Hotel and Abu Dhabi Golf Club by Sheraton co-hosted the second Charity Golf Day in aid of UNICEF and the Red Crescent Society.
It is another stepping stone towards Starwood continuous ambition to support and contribute to local and international charities.
The event attracted 16 companies of which 14 teams (104 players) competed on the Golf Course. Winners were announced during the prize giving gala dinner held at the poolside terrace of the Sheraton Abu Dhabi Resort & Towers. The event included the " Hit the Sheraton Island " golf game competition. Golf balls had to be chipped from the Sheraton private beach to a swim island in the center of the Sheraton Lagoon. Participants paid for each ball played and the money collected was donated to Charity.
During the prize giving dinner an auction was held and guests have been bidding for magnificent holiday prizes to various destinations in Europe, Middle East and Asia, including airline tickets from Etihad Airways. A considerable amount of money was collected by the auctioneers Robert van Meeerndonk and Robert Arnold.
On a similar note, last year we have witness a very special occasion that celebrated the Sheraton worldwide donation of $ 10 million to UNICEF, where again Sheraton Abu Dhabi Resort & Towers played a similar and important role.
The money was collected through the "Check out for Children" campaign that was introduced in 1995 to all Starwood Hotels & Resorts worldwide.
There are times in life when a person is touched deeply and moved to support a purpose greater than oneself, our team at the Sheraton Abu Dhabi Resort & Towers and Abu Dhabi Golf Club by Sheraton , found ourselves in that position today," said Robert Van Meerendonk, General Manager Sheraton Abu Dhabi Resort & Towers.
" During last years tournament, we were glad to lend our support to the Unicef & Red Crescent Society cause by having a action-packed golf tournament. After witnessing the tremendous response from some of the most elite organizations and companies in UAE, we felt it incumbent upon us to increase our involvement and efforts with this year tournament and these wonderful organizations and have Sheraton Charity Golf Day become an icon on Abu Dhabi Annual Calendar "
" It has been and always will be our endeavor to support good cause whether through regional or international charity organization. It's because of this principle that Sheraton Abu Dhabi had invested great efforts to implement such programs and managed to collect a considerable amount that contributed to the needy charitable organizations. " Commented Robert van Meerendonk - General Manager Sheraton Abu Dhabi Resort and Towers.
"DHL is involved in a number of charities and social projects which reiterates the fact that our commitment to the region has always been more than just business, "said David Wild, General Manager, DHL UAE Money collected will be handed to UNICEF and Red Crescent.
