Doha : Richard Tallant Executive Vice President of GTL for Shell and Managing Director of Shell Qatar Companies visited College of the North Atlantic – Qatar accompanied by Rashid Al Sulaiti, Deputy General Manager of Qatar Shell Pearl GTL and other stakeholders. The visit comes as an extension of the strong partnership between Qatar Shell and CNA-Q, and following the MoU that was signed between both entities beginning this year.
Dr. Salem Al-Naemi discussed with Mr. Richard Tallant the College’s applied education approach and plans to grow into the first National Applied University in addition to the College’s extensive research plan and development activities. A wide range of collaboration opportunities were agreed on especially around Sustainable Development and Innovation. Both parties agreed on leveraging the R&D expertise in this partnership and linking Qatar Shell Technology and Research Center to explore joint research opportunities focused on the sustainable development field.
Executive Vice President of GTL and Country Chair, Mr. Richard Tallant said: “Sustainability at Shell is about delivering energy in the most responsible way to meet the world’s growing needs. We look forward to address and prioritize programs that foster academia and industry-led partnerships as we continue to raise awareness around clean energy” He adds “At Qatar Shell Research and Technology Centre, we champion open innovation and partnerships with local research institutions and universities, and we believe future generations play a vital role in this discourse”
Qatar Shell stakeholders visit to School of Engineering Technology and Industrial Trades, included a tour at the Operations and Maintenance Training Pilot Plant and Instrumentation Laboratories. Such facilities are well suited to training in Process Automation and Instrumentation used in many industries and sectors as well as operation and maintenance. Qatar Shell sponsored students pursuing their studies under the Technician Certificate Program along with faculty welcomed Tallant into their School and discussed the unique student-centered approach that the College adopts to provide them with the hands-on skills they need at the workplace.
Commenting on the visit Dr. Salem Al-Naemi said: “Today we welcome our partners to a College that is constantly seeking strategic development. Our strength lies in such partnerships that help us keep our curriculums aligned to the latest industry needs and economic trends. Our educational institution focuses on experiential and applied learning in technology-rich classrooms, workshops, laboratories, and simulated environments. We are pleased to host Richard Tallant and Qatar Shell team in our premises and we appreciate their support to our young and talented students. The activities of our College, soon-to-be University are meant to achieve human, social and economic development in the country, and we have been blessed to have partners who share the same vision as we do.”
It is to be noted that the MoU signed between CNA-Q and Qatar shell provides a framework for undertaking joint initiatives that explore research, applied practical studies and technologies focused on sustainable development and energy. In addition to that, this partnership gives the chance to students of Engineering Technology and Industrial Trades’ School to intern at Shell Qatar facilities and benefit from its experts’ knowledge.
