Abu Dhabi - United Arab Emirates: In line with the exponential growth in social media globally in all sectors, Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) managed by Cleveland Clinic recently launched its official page on one of the most popular social networking websites, Facebook. SKMC is part of the SEHA HealthSystem and is owned and operated by Abu Dhabi Health Services Company PJSC (SEHA), which is responsible for the curative activities of all the public hospitals and clinics in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
The new facebook page (Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) managed by Cleveland Clinic), provides details about the medical city and opens up a 3 way communication channel; between members and SKMC in the form of questions and feedbacks, between SKMC and members in terms of sharing information and raising discussion points; and between members where they share experiences and point of views at SKMC.
So far, the topics that were discussed revolved around recruitment process, admissions, medical procedures, connecting with old SKMC friends, sharing experiences and others. Without being advertised and over a short period of time, the site was able to get around 500 fans from all over the world.
"This is the first step in SKMC's social presence and other social networking platforms will go live in the near future. The intent is to increase transparency in our medical outcomes and processes to reinforce trust in our healthcare system. The dimension that social media creates for an organization is unquantifiable. It is simply like handing over the microphone to a large crowd of people and listening to what they have to say.
