Award-winning kit blocks unauthorized access to confidential documents processed by digital copier/printer

Dubai, September 13, 2007: Sharp Corp. Japan, a leading supplier of document and office automation solutions & products, has introduced its industry-leading Data Security Kit in the Middle East. The award-winning solution protects confidential documents processed by the digital copier/printer by encrypting and erasing confidential data from copiers/printers hard drive to prevent losing information and data leakage.

Announcing the new innovations in Dubai, Mr. Tomio Isogai, SHARP MIDDLE EAST FZE Managing Director, highlighted Sharp's environmentally friendly activities aimed at protecting nature and eliminating health hazards to users.

"Sharp is not concentrating only on mass production, we also take the human health into consideration by producing environmentally friendly products," said Mr. Isogai. "Our production materials do not contain any hazardous substances that could harm nature during use or even when disposed of. In our MFPs, consumables are lead and chromium free eliminating any danger to users' health and packaging has been reduced to a minimum to limit over utilizing nature's resources. We aspire to be a leading environmentally conscious manufacturer driven by the concept of Green Products and 'Ecolution,' a term coined by merging ecology and solution."

Mr. G K Pai, Chairman of NGI, sole Sharp distributor in Dubai and Northern Emirates, said, "Commitment to customers has helped us register dramatic growth over the past two years, as seen in Sharp's market share rising to double digits. Helped by a dedicated and focused team of sales personnel and staff, we have bagged major corporate accounts and we offer the full range of Sharp MFPs. Some of our pioneering achievements are Arabised panels and ROHS certification."

Mr. Ravinder Kumar, Product & Marketing Manager, Sharp Middle East, said: "Organizations spend significant capital to protect digital assets from threats, yet frequently overlook one of the most integral devices in use today - the office Multi-Function Peripheral (MFP). The more advanced and integrated MFPs become, the greater is the risk to confidential information during the document's life cycle when it is being copied, printed, scanned or faxed."

Sharp officials point out that documents left lying around in the output tray of a printer are an easy target for nosy personnel. Hackers can gain access to MFPs hard drive through the network connection and gather sensitive information. Digital printers, copiers and multifunctional devices have hard disk and memory that still retain hundreds of pages of confidential data long after the document is created. Even in the absence of a network connection the machine can still provide you with substantial security features to protect the final copied or printed document.

Sharp's Data Security Kit is the first product solution to be issued the "Common Criteria" certificate by the US National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP), a joint program of the National Security Agency and the National Institute of Standards and Technology, which now administers the program.

Sharp's contribution to information security has been recognized through several awards over the past four years, ranging from Buyers Lab Pick of the Year to Exceptional Five Star Performance by BERTL. And not only for the security features, but also for the outstanding overall performance.
