Proceeds of dried flower arrangements of allocated to Palestinian children's charity
Sharjah: The Al Qasba Flower Festival 2008, the first of its kind to be held in Sharjah wowed an enormous audience last week. The week long festivities that lasted until Thursday (April 24) ended with proceeds from the sale of dried flower exhibition being handed over to "For the Children" movement under Sharjah's Fundraising Campaign for Palestinian Children.
"Al Qasba Flower Festival 2008 has been a paramount success and we hope to make it an annual event," said Dina Al Nakhi, Events Manager, Al Qasba Development Authority.
"At Al Qasba, which is now considered the most popular family entertainment and cultural hub of the region, we strive to cater to all the nuances of public taste, and the Flower Festival is an event which undoubtedly catches the imagination of all, whatever their age or their nationalities may be. We are
happy that the Flower Festival attracted such a public interest and promise to cater our visitors with equally exciting events in the future," she said.
The flower exhibition of the Al Qasba Flower Festival 2008 included the winning entries of the famous Al Zanabig Floral Design Contest, which was held as part of the festival. At the competitions top florists from around the region including Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Syria, Libya and the UAE competed, producing 60 fresh and dried flower arrangements in less than six hours. The competition that was held outside of Saudi Arabia for the first time since its inception 10 years ago attracted 87 entries out of which only 12 participants had qualified to meet up to stringent standards of the event.
The spectacular floral displays were then judged by an international jury made up of flower experts Bahaa Abdelbaki from Dellisse - the United Arab Emirate walked away with the first prize while George Chehade from Lebanon and Julius Villamante from Oleander, UAE were placed second and third respectively.
