The Security Professionals Association (SPA) for the Security Industry Regulatory Agency (SIRA) highlighted the crucial role of safety and security in major events like the World Expo in Dubai to the more than 400 members who convened todday for its first General Assembly.
With less than a year to complete, an anticipated 25 million visitors from 192 participating countries will descend to the country across a period of six months and will put Dubai and the UAE into the limelight as it hosts the first World Fair to ever be ever held in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA) region.
Thus, the delivery of a safe and secure World Expo is of utmost importance and this can be achieved by implementing a series of programmes, workshops and training sessions to the more than 50,000 security professionals in the UAE.

“The UAE hosted several major events and we applaud the government for ensuring the safety of the people who have participated in such evens. With upcoming major events such as the Expo 2020, it is crucial for the security workforce to undertake stimulating and pro-active programmes to enhance their skills, improve their abilities, exceed their level of creativity and strengthen their commitment to protect the people and places they are responsible for.”
At the General Assembly, the initial programme of events for the next few months was rolled out, including the announcement of two workshops dedicated to security professionals and public, as well as a focused training session that would take place between March and April 2020. The full calendar would be made available in the coming weeks.
Adil Abdel-Hadi, Second Deputy Chairman of SPA for SIRA, will conduct the first training session in April, which will include large elements of awareness sessions security. “The committee members have spent a great deal of time and effort developing a programme that is aimed at enhancing the skills and expertise of all our members, as well as supporting their knowledge and professional development. We
will collaborate with top international security professionals and experts to equip our members with the necessary tools. Personally, I will endeavor to provide security consultancy, and training and awareness programmes in security and safety, to ensure our members are able to do their jobs to the best of their ability as well as progress within their chosen career,” said Abdel-Hadi.
Aimed at connecting the more than 50,000 security professionals in the country, SPA for SIRA was officially launched at Intersec in January 2020 as a means to provide security professionals with a platform for knowledge exchange and development. One of its core ambitions is to bridge the gap between security professionals and the regulators in the industry.
