28 participants take part in the HR workshops focusing on recruitment and selection

Manama - Wednesday, 11th July 2012:

28 Bahraini professionals recently completed the second series of Tamkeen's Human Resources Management Workshops, held at the Gulf Hotel. The workshops, which focused on the process of recruitment and selection, are part of Tamkeen's ongoing drive to develop human capital according to labour market requirements to make Bahrainis the employee of choice in the private sector.

The English-language workshops, delivered by Third Wave International and Deakin Prime, aim to enhance the competencies of HR professionals and bring international best practices in this field to the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The workshops are one of 10 management and leadership training programmes offered by Tamkeen under its Management and Leadership project. Together, these programmes provide a comprehensive package of management and leadership training to Enterprises and Bahrainis employed in the private sector, with separate workshops delivered in Arabic and English.  In total, 3,400 Bahrainis are set to benefit from these programmes.

Tamkeen's Human Capital Development Senior Manager Amal Al-Kooheji, commented, "The ultimate aim of these workshops is to improve productivity, instill best practices, and build business knowledge that enable participants to improve their businesses and accelerate their growth and development. These workshops are an important element of Tamkeen's human capital development programmes which to date have enabled more than 35,000 Bahrainis to upgrade their skills and capabilities and reach their true potential."

Mr. Charlie Sampson, an accredited trainer of DeakinPrime, conducted the workshops which utlise interactive sessions to enrich the learning and facilitate sharing best practices. The participants, who represented a broad cross-section of sectors such manufacturing, retail, hospitality, telecom and the financial services sectors, will receive an accredited certificate from Deakin Prime Australia.

Third Wave International Joint Managing Directors Stefan Moraes and Dilip de S Wijeyeratne expressed their satisfaction with level of engagement and commitment to learning on behalf of the participants.

"The objective of this programme is to assist HR professionals and business leaders in transforming the role of HR from its traditional role to become a "Strategic Business Partner. The training will certainly add immense business value as the participants adapt their learning at their respective workplaces," they said.

Participants said the workshops helped them to update their technical knowledge, sharpen and practice some of the relevant skills relating to recruitment and selection through group activities.

"The opportunity to participate in this workshop meant a great deal to me, as I'm sure it did to my fellow HR professionals," stated Latifa Khalifa Saqer. "The training gave us hope that an advanced HR practice in which the organisations' most valuable asset, its people, is just around the corner. A new era of HR starts with us right now."

Another participant, Salah Al-Kooheji, commented, "I would like to thank Tamkeen for their support and Third Wave International for being well organised throughout the training. This workshop gave us hands-on experience well worth it."

About Tamkeen
Tamkeen was established in August 2006 as part of Bahrain's national reform initiatives and Bahrain Economic Vision 2030, and is tasked with developing Bahrain's private sector and positioning it as the key driver of economic development.

Tamkeen's two primary objectives are:
1) Fostering the creation and development of enterprises, and
2) Providing support to enhance the productivity and growth of enterprises and individuals.
Under each of those objectives, a number of mechanisms and programmes have been identified based on detailed studies of the labour market to identify current and future gaps for individuals and enterprises and how to address them.

As of December 2011, Tamkeen has injected more than BD 166 million into the private sector through its programmes, targeting over 100,000 Bahrainis and enterprises. Moreover, it has made in excess of BD 166 million available through its financing portfolio, and enabled over 3,000 Bahrainis find employment, and more than 1,000 enterprises to participate in leading local, regional, and international trade fairs and exhibitions.

In 2012, Tamkeen plans on launching more than 20 new initiatives. These programmes range from training aimed at developing human capital - whether students, employees, employers, or job seekers - to match acquired skills to market requirements, and other programmes which enhance the productivity of individuals through promoting awareness of successful practices in the private sector. For enterprises, Tamkeen provides professional consulting services to raise their performance, and facilitates access to financing to bridge the enterprise financing gap. In addition, Tamkeen is also leading other national initiatives which enhance investments in Bahrain.

Tamkeen's funds come from 50% of the fees collected from the Labour Market Regulatory Authority.
