The deal one of Aramco's biggest fleet orders
Dammam, Saudi Arabia - 30 November 2004 - As part of its continuous drive to expand its fleet, Saudi Aramco is in the process of taking delivery of over 2,300 GMC trucks and Chevrolet cars.
The deal, one of the biggest fleet orders in Aramco's history, included 294 GMC Suburban, 105 GMC Yukon, 73 GMC Van and 1079 GMC C/K pick-up in addition to 764 Chevrolet Caprice and Chevrolet Lumina.
Commenting on Aramco's decision, Muneer Alhasan, Regional Fleet Sales Manager, General Motors Middle East, said: "This is one of the landmark agreements for General Motors. It is the performance, reliability, low maintenance costs and value for money that have made Chevrolet and GMC the partner of choice for Aramco."
"We are delighted that one of the world's leading oil companies has once again turned to GMC and Chevrolet's widest range of trucks to meet its fleet requirements. It is further testimony to the fact that Chevrolet and GMC products are unparalleled in terms of meeting the needs of individual and corporate customers in the region."
General Motors' long history in the region stretches back to the 1940s. According to Alhassan, General Motors boasts the widest range of passenger cars and trucks in the Middle East - from the entry-level Chevrolet Aveo to full-size luxury sedans like the Chevrolet Caprice Royale to off-road masters such as the GMC Yukon, the newly acclaimed 'King of the Desert'.
GMC cars have built a solid reputation for power, durability and strength. The depth of the 2005 line-up of models, particularly the all-new GMC Envoy XL, further demonstrates a continuous commitment to exceed customers' expectations for high quality, powerful vehicles.
Extraordinary roominess, surprising agility and advanced levels of comfort are just some of the many reasons for the growing popularity of the Yukon in the GCC, while it is widely acknowledged that the GMC Suburban occupies a class of its own.
And while comfort and interior space have long been the cornerstones of the Suburban's success, it is also renowned for its enhanced safety and convenience features. GM's four-channel StabiliTrak system is now available on all Suburban models together with a heavy-duty locking rear differential. StabiliTrak helps the driver maintain control of the vehicle in sudden maneuvers, particularly in low traction conditions.
Engineered specifically for the tough conditions of the Middle East, the Chevrolet Lumina has carved out a sizeable niche in the regional market due to its sleek styling, extensive safety features, powerful engine and exceptional value for money.
The legendary Caprice continues to have a huge following in the Middle East, ever since the first model of this class appeared close to 40 years ago. Today, Caprice is available in four versions - the LS, LTZ, SS and the flagship top-of-the-range, award-winning Royale
Chevrolet Caprice Royale was recently chosen 'Car of the Year' for 2004, by Saudi Auto, a leading regional motoring publication, in recognition of its raw power, sophisticated looks, spaciousness, advanced body structure, safety technology and value for money.
