District Cooling Plant to supply up to 20,000 tons of refrigeration

Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) has signed a long term energy performance contract with Zamil Industrial Investment Company for the complete outsourcing of process and comfort cooling at Saudi Iron & Steel Company (Hadeed), a wholly owned subsidiary of SABIC. The project's lifetime revenues are estimated to exceed SAR 1 billion.

Zamil Industrial won this contract with special technical support from Bahrain based Energy Central, a company owned by Zamil Industrial and other prominent Gulf partners. Drake & Scull International is the Engineer, Procure and Construct (EPC) Contractor for this vital project.

The process adopted by Hadeed started with the awarding of Zamil Industrial a Detailed Facility Study and Technical Energy Audit to establish energy consumption baselines and assess most attractive energy conservation measures.

Mansour Al-Kharboush, Vice President - Shared Service at SABIC attended the signing ceremony and said: "Due to the nature of this complex undertaking, the process took longer than expected but will yield enormous benefits to Hadeed and will serve as a template to many of the SABIC companies and the extended industrial conglomerates in Jubail and elsewhere. This ambitious project will significantly reduce energy consumption, and will help Hadeed focus on its vision of becoming the leading producer of steel products in the region".
