Phase I Opens in Feb, Phase II in Mid 2009
Dubai (United Arab Emirates): Roads and Transport Authority announced that work is progressing according to schedule in Roads Parallel to Sheikh Zayed Road Project at Al-Barsha and Al-Qouz Industrial areas. The Project phase at Al-Barsha is expected to be completed in February 2009, while Al-Qouz Industrial phase is set to be delivered by mid of next year. This vital project extends from Jebel Racecourse to Muscat Road, with a total length of 15 km in the Western & Eastern Parallel Roads.
Maitha bin Adai, CEO of RTA Traffic & Roads Agency said: "Work is progressing well in this project as part of Roads Parallel to Sheikh Zayed Road Project; which is one of the mega projects undertaken by the RTA. It extends 108 km running from Sheikh Rashid Road in the north and terminates at the outskirts of the emirate of Abu Dhabi, including bridges, intersections at the juncture of parallel roads with perpendicular roads with a total length of 42 km.
"Upgrading roads at Al-Barsha and Al-Qouz Industrial areas comprises two roads parallel to Sheikh Zayed Road extending 15 km from Muscat Road (currently Meydan) to 611 Road in the Eastern Road, and 18 km in the Western Road from Al-Barsha & Al-Qouz areas. The two Parallel Roads consist of at least three lanes in each direction, and intersect with several roads including 22 signalized junctions.
"The two roads consist of three lanes in each direction for traffic heading towards the main road, as well as two lanes in each direction for local traffic, except for intersections approaches where the number of lanes matches to the anticipated traffic volumes. Works also include introducing substantial improvements as well as road landscaping & lighting.
"Road users and residents of the project neighbourhood are invited to use alternative roads and diversions fitted with light signals and directional signs to ease traffic flow in the area. RTA is keen to carry out the required improvements of roads network in a way compatible with the nature of development in the areas and all areas of Dubai. This merits upgrading road network and providing alternative corridors to serve residents & visitors of Dubai, and ease the traffic pressure from vital spots in the emirate.
"Announcing the phases of completing these projects reflects RTA attention to maintain the ongoing interaction with the public and keep road users informed of the actual work progress of various projects. This comes in the context of the continuous efforts of Traffic & Roads Agency to improve roads network of the emirate through implementing several vital projects. The overall objective is contain traffic bottlenecks, provide advanced services at residential areas, meet the requirements of growth and demographic expansion, and provide practical & comprehensive solutions to ensure seamless traffic flow and contribute to the vision of the RTA to provide 'safe and smooth transport for all' in the emirate", said Maitha in a concluding remark.
